Unlike Saint Paul of the New Testament, who found his way into religion on the road to Damascus, the author of this autobiography found freedom from religion on his long road back from Damascus, where he was figuratively born and raised. With original insights into evangelical Christian issues &ndash. getting saved, surrendering all to Jesus, enacting the fleece test, and struggling with issues of faith versus reason &ndash. the author details his gradual escape from religion and charts a road ahead to a brighter future in a post theist society. From his early ambition to become a theologian and Christian minister, the author&rsquo.s interest shifted to secular education, becoming a public school teacher for a decade and then a university professor teaching philosophy of education. This transformation constituted a change of major proportions, an about face reminiscent of Saint Paul&rsquo.s conversion on the road to Damascus.
