This is a personal account of a decade spent developing a surf life saving facility in Mandurah Western Australia. A few volunteers overcame the odds when dealing with the local council and the organisation s state body who together held the power and infl uence in decision making. Development of a home for the club was an unnecessarily long . journey that was described by some as a process that required volunteers to wage a war with those in power for common sense to prevail.
