Electroencephalography or EEG as it most often is referred to as is a method to read the electrical activity of the brain. The ability to do this dates back to the mid to late 19th century when scientist began to study the brain activity of various animals such as rabbits, dogs, and monkeys. .The 1920 s saw the first example of these involving humans, when in 1924 German physiologist and psychiatrist Hans Berger recorded the first human EEG. . One of the first discoveries was the EEG s ability to identify the potential for epileptic seizures. As science and scientist began to understand the workings of the EEG they were able to identify more beneficial uses for its use. These included: . v Testing brain activity after a stroke v Diagnose Alzheimer s Disease v Diagnose Narcolepsy . The EEG may also be used to determine the electrical activity of the brain of an individual involved in a trauma, or ev
